Come to the calm of a well functioning brain.
Laughter stimulates endorphin. This is the natural opioid in the body. The word endorphin stems from endogenous morphine. We only get little drips of it when we laugh, but that is a natural way of feeling good. What endorphin job to do is to mask pain, not necessarily to feel good. It can help us out, to not go into a negative spiral. When we go into the negative spiral we create a threat in the low brain area. First we scan for details (like an antelope that smells a lion, which way should I run.). Cortisol stays in the brain for an hour. During that time we can find many things to get us triggered. So during that time we can find a good reason to laugh. Think of it as a personal training program, we just use our laughter storage. This article is taken from Psychology Today.
