Depression can be recognized as sadness or despair. We all go through it. However, we need to look into the problem if it is causing problems with your memory, higher thinking and completing tasks. It can also include the feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and despair. It can also affect your immune system. All of these things can interrupt your ability to think clearly, which also impacts your memory and decision making skills. You could have problems with seeing your way through these issues. All of these thinking problems can lead to alcoholism and suicide. This is all related to a reduction and interruption of the brains chemical messengers.
Some of the things that you can learn to do are to break down the tasks into smaller pieces. Learn to recognize and improve your brain function. People that manipulate can oversimplify, they can reduce a complicated situation to black and white.
They refocus the point of an argument in favor of themselves. They like their own point of view. They like to use the words, never and always. You never do this or that.... You always.....
They exaggerate. They call a second request harassment. They focus on their own pain.
They have inner pain and can only find that pain in the world around them.
If you find a point to agree upon, they will change their perception and deny it.
If you find a point to agree upon, they will keep changing the agreement and run in another direction with lots of other points.

Researchers from the University of Cordoba have been looking into empathy and prejudice. They used information from 250 students to understand the importance of the differences.
Empathy is regarded as putting oneself into another persons shoes. They found that empathy does not have a direct effect on prejudice. However, it does have an indirect effect on personality and attitude. When someone has low empathy they score high on authoritarianism. Someone with empathy has an openness to experience. When someone has, what is called "right wing authoritarianism" they defend social stability and values of culture.

The fundamental rule of plasticity in the brain has been discovered at MIT. The scientists at MIT have proven how neurons in the brain are flexible or plastic. Neurons can learn to create new or stronger connections with other neurons. They have also found that when one synapse strengthens the neighboring synapses weaken. One neuron can effect thousands of other neurons, which in turn can effect the 100 billion interacting neurons in the brain.
The scientists were able to activate the plasticity in the brain of mice in the visual cortex. Through optogenics they were able to change the visual cortex field. They taught the mouses brain to rearrange the neurons. They were able to record this change with a two photon microscope. I would love to be able to play with this equipment.

Here is some research from Cornell University. Areas of the brain can be different for left vs. right handed people or in between. Since the 1970's, hundreds of studies have found that each hemisphere of the brain is home to a specific type of emotion. Emotions linked to approaching the world such as, happiness, pride, anger lives in the left side of the brain. While avoidance emotions such as disgust and fear is located in the right side of the brain. This study shook everything up. Because the older studies used right hand dominate people, the left handed people were not included. The researchers from the Cornell study, found that the left handed people could have all of the neurons reversed. This is how they approach or avoid the world. With the neural therapies that are around, mild electrical or magnetic stimulation, they are treating the part of the brain that encourage approach related emotions. This could be damaging the left handed people, because the neural connections are reversed.

Try to avoid bad news, it triggers the limbic system and the amaygdala. These two areas then trigger anxiety. Checking the news can become an addiction.
