Come to the calm of a well functioning brain.

Exploring different regions of the brain...

What happens in the brain that makes it function the way that it does?  As mentioned earlier, the brain is a symphony in itself.  It has many different functions, with many different areas involved.  Some of the basic functions of the brain is in what is called the brain stem.  This is the main relay station between the brain and the rest of the body.  The brain stem is also responsible for many of the vital functions of the body.  It regulates the heartbeat (which can increase when you see the one you love), breathing (ditto on that last comment), swallowing, coughing and sneezing.  It also plays a role in consciousness and sexual arousal (ditto).   If this area of the brain is not functioning at an optimum level the consequences can be dramatic.  Our species could decline (without all the fun) and, well, breathing can be pretty important.  LENS neurofeedback is an easy way for the brain and body to increase it's performance and obtain a optimum level of functioning.

Let's talk about some good quality sleep...

Sleep helps us to cement our memories, clear out toxins, solve problems and make decisions.  Important stuff!  Not having good sleep can cause problems such as, poorer health, faster ageing, depression, forgetfulness, obesity, lower alertness and accidents.  So let us look at some of the strategies that can make sleep come a little easier.
#1.  Develop a routine, the body responses well to habits.
#2.  Make sure that the lights are dimmed an hour before sleep.  Turn off the computers, T.V., cell phones, etc.
#3.  Take regular exercise, not before sleep time.
#4.  Reduce your intake of alcohol and caffeine.
#5.  If your a natural worrier find ways to relax.
If you really have a hard time sleeping, then get up for a little while and then try again.  Read something complicated.
LENS neurofeedback can help the brain to find it's new rhythm.  It can help to relieve all of the nervous symptoms that keep our brain hardwired to keep us up at night.

Drugs, drugs, drugs and more drugs.....

According to a new report from JAMA, 1 in 6 people are on antidepressant or other psychiatric drugs.   The study includes the information that out of all of the ethnic groups,  twice as many of the white population are on the drugs.  There are 16.5 percent of the population on antidepressants, and 8.3 percent are on anxiety, sedatives, or sleeping pills.  The death rate from drugs has gone up 4 times, in the teenage girl population since 2013.  The side effects of these drugs can cause a great deal of problems also.
LENS neurofeedback can help the brain to heal so that it no longer requires these outside substances to function at a good level.  When you come to see me, your brain will be happy to get these substances out of there.  You will be able to function at a much higher level.

What makes this brain work?

We have an amazing brain that has 100 billion neurons.  A neuron is a brain cell, the cell body is shaped like a splattered spider with many dendrites coming off of it.   The dendrites are what receive the information coming into the brain.  The neuron cell also has a long tail that comes off of it that is called an axon.  The axon takes the information away from the cell, to another dendrite.  At the end of the axon we have branches coming off, that end in synapses.
When these neurons are jammed up (from emotional or physical trauma) we call this brain compensation.  The brain does not heal like a broken leg but keeps protecting the part of the brain that is damaged.  LENS neurofeedback can unlock these areas of the brain that have been protected.

How to learn something New!!!

Here are a few science based tips on learning...
1. Make sure that you have enough sleep.  Sleep is the time to cement memories.
2.  Get moving...exercise increases the amount of oxygen to the brain and can improve the amount of synapses that we have in the hippocampus.
3.  Pay attention.  Avoid distractions such as cell phones.  We can really only do one task at a time.
4. The more times that we say, hear or do something the stronger the brain connections become.  Practice, Practice, Practice!  But take regular breaks.
5.  Be creative about the way that you approach a task.  Read it, sing it, draw it, dance it.  I know of a chiropractor that had to learn the krebs cycle.  He used a white board and danced around the knowledge until he got it, very creative.  I applaud that effort.
LENS neurofeedback can help the brain mechanism to reconnect in a good way, using it's own mirror image.  This can make the learning, creative part of the brain (all of it!) more receptive to new information.
