The researchers at University California, Irvine did a long term study that shows how a negative response to stress can impact health up to a decade later. The researchers have found that even minor, negative stressors can have an impact that affects health as much as a big stressor, such as a death or getting divorced. The researchers had the participants take a 8 day stress evaluation of their negative emotions. The researchers then went back 10 years later to access the health of the participants. They found evidence that negative perceptions of events affected their health, which included chronic illness, functional impairments and difficulties with everyday tasks.
