Come to the calm of a well functioning brain.
Looking at some of the structures of the brain, helps us to understand what happens when we are about to react. One of the deep, primitive structures is called the limbic system. This part of the brain has the key role of keeping our memories alive and expressing our emotional state. When we have been in emotional turmoil, this part of the brain stores the information. Unfortunately, it is a nonverbal part of the brain. Once this information is stored in this area it is difficult to access verbally.
There is a small area within the limbic system that is called the amygdala. This is the area that is in charge of the memories. It has no sense of time, so any highly charged stress can be felt as if it was happening now. When trauma is stored here and is kept in this area it can grow into what we call PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). LENS neurofeedback can help to re-balance this area of the brain so that reactions subside. Once this happens, we are once again in charge of our life and everything starts flowing smoothly.
