Here is the first habit that Steven Covey researched. He found these habits in the people that were effective in life.
Habit number one is be Proactive. This is about taking responsibility for your life. Proactive people are response-able. They don't blame circumstances, conditions, or conditioning for their behavior. They know that they choose their behavior. The other type of person is the Reactive type. They are often affected by their physical environment. If the weather is bad, then they feel bad. We have a choice between stimulus and response. Our greatest power is to understand this. A proactive person uses words such as, I can, I will, I prefer, etc. A reactive person does not believe that they have any power over the situation and will say things like, I can't, I must, If only....
