What happens with the aging brain????

As you grow older the two hemispheres of the brain begin to work together, this makes up for the loss of some processing capacity.  However, if people keep the brain functioning at a high level, taking classes, reading, giving the gray matter a work-out there is an improvement in the brains ability to create more connections. This is supported by scientists finding that increased cognition is indicated by an increase in the white matter (an increase in the myelin sheaths) in the frontal region of the brain, prefrontal cortex.  This is the region that higher thinking takes place.

However, some studies indicate that the inductive reasoning, equanimity and objectivity increased between 40 and the early 60's (long term study by Ravenna Helson, UC Berkley).  There was an increased tolerance for ambiguity and improved ability to manage relationships.  Some of the conclusions drawn indicate that reflective thinking is improved as we age.

LENS neurofeedback keeps the brain functioning at a higher level, because the ability of the brain to defragment is improved.
