Come to the calm of a well functioning brain.
If you would like to have a little fun, go to the NPR website. There is a song about what happens when we fall in love. It explains the different neuro-chemical reactions with the love drug and has the same title as this article.
We know that love is complicated. There is no specific love chemical that surges through our bodies when we fall in love. Scientists have measured real changes in our bodies when we do fall in love. In the early phase, sex hormones , like testosterone fuel the libido (in both men and women), Dopamine highs (that can be compared to cocaine use) are created with the attraction. Anxiety that is linked to romance is linked to low levels of serotonin. This has been compared to obsessive-complusive disorder. Meanwhile, our brains start producing more oxytocin, which is also important for the bonding of mother and infants. We have a very complicated chemical dance going on in our bodies all of the time. This chemical dance can create the feeling that love is all consuming and addictive. LENS neurofeedback helps balance the brain. It does help to create a more relaxed, smoother feeling.
